Margaret Elizabeth Hermes, 81, Villas, entered into eternal rest surrounded by the love of her family, Sunday, May 18 at Cooper University Medical Center-Camden NJ. Born January 18, 1944 in Milford CT, she was the daughter of the late William Dimick and Margaret Darrow. She grew up in Hamden and Old Lyme CT. Margaret (Peggy) earned her Master's Degree in Environmental Science and Education from Southern Connecticut State University.
Margaret had a passion for education and teaching, prior to her career as an educator, she worked as a medical researcher pioneering the initial research of the AIDS virus. Beyond her career, Margaret had an interest in ecology and protecting the environment. She loved animals and was an avid ornithologist. She also had a creative side whether it was writing poetry and lyrics, doing ceramics, or creating other beautiful works of art with her hands.
Margaret combined her enthusiasm for traveling and art when she traveled to Italy. In addition to visual arts, she enjoyed theater. She went to see many Broadway shows with her daughter, Glena and son-in-law, John. She took great pleasure in listening to her daughter Megan sing, as well as spending time with her two grandchildren, Peter and Karla.
She will forever be loved and missed by her daughters CDR Glena Tredinnick, USCG (Ret.) wife of John and Megan LuRose wife of Daniel Dunn; grandchildren Second Lieutenant Peter Sanchez, US Air Force and Karla Rios, ABSN; sister Christina Dimick; several nephews and a niece; and several great nieces and great nephews. She spent the final few years of her life with her devoted boyfriend William (Bill) Meehan and will be dearly missed by her Cape May friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Fredrick Hermes (January 10, 2018) and sister Anne Sullivan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Saturday, June 7th at the Chapel of the United States Coast Guard Base Training Center of Cape May, 1 Munro Ave. Cape May, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 9:30AM until 10:30AM. Words of remembrance will begin at 10:30AM. Please allow 30 minutes prior to arrival for security admission clearance. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family would prefer donations be made to the Cape May County Animal Shelter, 110 Shelter Road, Cape May Court House NJ 08210 or the Nature Center of Cape May, 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ 08204.
