DiDONATO, FRED

DiDONATO, FRED
Fred DiDonato, 90 of North Cape May, NJ – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred “Pop” DiDonato, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Pop passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born in Philadelphia on April 2, 1935, to his parents Anna (nee Mastrangelo) and Rocco DiDonato, Fred was a man who cherished his family above all else. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Coletta Marie (nee Giantonio), his son, Fred DiDonato, and his parents.
Pop is survived by his devoted son, Mark DiDonato, and his wife, Danette. He was the proud and loving Pop to his granddaughters and their partners: Stephanie (nee DiDonato) and Danny Williams, Lauren (nee DiDonato) and EJ Dougherty, and Gabrielle DiDonato and James Longstreet. The true lights of his life were his great-grandchildren: Ava Williams, and Colton, Carter, and the anticipated arrival of baby girl Lainey Dougherty. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph DiDonato and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Rocco (Junior), Carmen (Tommy), Nicky, Franny, Stella, and Rita.
Growing up in South Philly, Fred dedicated many years working for a bookbinding company. In the early 1970s, he moved his family to New Jersey, where he later enjoyed a second career with the DMV before finally retiring.
Pop's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and his many friends. He was known for his infectious laughter, his love of playing cards, and his enjoyment of a good round of golf. Many cherished memories were made on cruises with loved ones. However, his most treasured tradition was cooking his famous Sunday dinners of macaroni and gravy, a meal that brought everyone together and filled their hearts and stomachs with love.
Fred “Pop” DiDonato will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Family invites everyone to wear bright and festive clothes. Viewing will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Service will start at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape May, NJ.
