DEEGAN, DOROTHY VIRGINIA

DEEGAN,
DOROTHY VIRGINIA
Dorothy Virginia Deegan, a beloved mother, grand
mother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, December 6, 2024 at the age of 100. She was born to Howard and Henrietta Curry on June 6, 1924 in Philadelphia and remained in Philadelphia until 1969. Dorothy was a member of Sherwood United Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. After graduating from high school, she worked for Morris Music Company, which closed due to WWII in 1943.
During WWII, Dottie was a member of the Army, Navy, and Merchant Seamen service clubs. She danced with and entertained the servicemen (She was a great jitter bugger!) and made pounds of her delicious fudge for them at Christmas. She was able to do this with donated sugar coupons.
She was the recipient of a Civil Service Defense button. Dorothy worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad until 1960. During that span of time she met Joseph F. Deegan. They married in 1951 and were happily married until his passing in 1981. During that time they resided in Springfield, PA. In 1985 Dottie moved to her summer home in Stone Harbor, NJ. She worked for Dr. Robert Speer until 2020. Dot loved to dance, was an avid reader and puzzler, and loved making various costumes for her grandchildren!
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Deegan, her sister Lois E. Jackson, and brother John W. Curry, niece Sandie Thomson and nephew Ronald Jackson. She is survived by her loving son Douglas and wife Melanie, grandchildren Cole, Alexa, and Chase, and great grandson James. She is also survived by her niece Lauran Jackson and her children Staci and Jeremy and her nephew David Jackson, and Sandie's husband Jeff, and their daughter Katie. “Dottie D” always had a happy and positive attitude. She had a great sense of humor and always rolled with the punches! She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her!
