ALBERT CLAY, Jr.
Albert Clay Sowers, Jr. age 71, of Selbyville, DE, received his final checkered flag at home surrounded by his wife, daughter, two golden retrievers, and two cats on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. He was born in Wellsboro, PA and was the son of the late Albert Sowers and Anne (Gyllenhaal) Sowers of Cape May Point, NJ.
He was the retired crew chief for MK Foreign Car, LTD in Langhorn, PA. Clay was also a former Sprint Car driver and a proud member of the United Racing Club and the World of Outlaws. Most recently, he served as the Vice President of the Kirsten Kares Foundation, where he traveled the country with his daughter as she sang and performed with her guitar at various racetracks, Camp Corral summer camps for children of fallen or wounded military soldiers and even opening for the late Charlie Daniels. His most treasured roles in life were being “Mr. Mom”, a roadie and a loving husband for over 38 years!
Clay is survived by his wife, Shelly (Derr) Sowers of Selbyville, DE and a daughter, Kirsten Sowers of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by one brother, Jeffrey Sowers and wife Carol of Bradenton, FL; three sisters, Barbara Smith and husband Chip of Bradenton, FL, Jackie Gallagher and husband Mike of Hockessin, DE and Jennifer Mineart and husband Alvin of Columbia, MD; brother-in-law, Ronald Derr and wife Debbie of Williamsport, PA.
A private prayer and reflection service was held on April 8, 2025 and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
