NORTH WILDWOOD – The city’s towing contractor was removing equipment from the boardwalk when the truck broke through the boards. A crane had to be used to lift the truck out of the hole it created.

Mayor Patrick Rosenello said the driver “made a wrong turn and unfortunately went through the boardwalk” between 25th and 26th avenues.

Rosenello said this is not the first time such a thing has happened. “We have had other incidents. It happens from time to time,” he said.

The mayor said North Wildwood has gotten better about keeping vehicles off the boardwalk, and if they do have to go up there, they try to keep the vehicle in the right spot.

This truck, he said, was delivering some equipment, a tire-changing machine, to the tram car warehouse and was removing some old battery chargers.

The mayor said the broken section of the boardwalk is part of the section scheduled to be replaced beginning in September.

“That section is already under contract under the first phase of boardwalk reconstruction,” he said.
