WILDWOOD – The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect in a shooting in Wildwood that left a bystander in critical condition.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy said in a July 10 release that the shooting happened in the 3800 block of Pacific Avenue. A post on Wildwood Police Department’s Facebook page later clarified that the shooting occurred on Tuesday, July 9, at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Police said the shooting resulted in the wounding of an innocent bystander, who was in critical condition at Atlantic Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Division. Police said they have identified the suspect, William C. Hoyle, who remains at large. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Sutherland said this is an ongoing investigation and urged anyone who might have additional information to contact the Wildwood Police Department at 609-522-0222 or the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 609-465-1135.
