WOODBINE – The Borough of Woodbine has been awarded a grant of $500 from AtlantiCare’s Growing Green Initiative for the Community Garden at the Woodbine Community Center.
The Community Garden is maintained by the Borough’s senior Citizen population with assistance from the Cape May County RSVP program and AARP Chapter#52 92. Through this gardening project the seniors are provided with physical exercise through planting and maintaining the garden and later are provided with fresh nutritious vegetables.
The grant will be used for educational supplies, equipment, and program materials, including additional vegetable plants and low maintenance/low water requirement native species for the Municipal Complex to further enhance the Green Team’s sustainability efforts. The Green Team will be hosting a Rain Barrel Demonstration as part of an educational workshop to encourage residents to utilize alternative sustainable methods to maintain their gardens and landscapes.
The planting of low maintenance/low water requirement native species will further enhance the Green Team’s sustainability efforts to conserve natural resources. The Rain Barrel Workshop is to educate the population on alternative sustainable methods of maintaining their gardens and landscapes.
“My thanks go to AtlantiCare for partnering with us in recognizing the importance of Woodbine’s project and also to our Municipal Clerk Lisa Garrison for her initiative in applying for and obtaining this for our Community through AtlanticCare,” added Mayor Pikolycky.
