By Leslie Truluck

STONE HARBOR — After several closed-session discussions, Borough Council Aug. 18 passed two resolutions to lease site 103 on Nummy Island to create a permanent dredge sediment processing facility.
Stone Harbor Boaters Association, Inc. owns site 103 on Nummy Island in Middle Township where there is a registered and approved dredge sediment confined disposal facility, the resolution states.
The borough and Boaters Association have agreed to a purchase option agreement, contingent upon the borough being able to obtain necessary permits to create the sediment processing facility.
The borough’s initial payment for the lease/option contract is $2,600, which consists of a $1,000 initial payment and a $1,600 lease payment.
The borough will lease the area for use in dredge material from borough back bays, Intracoastal Waterway and other areas within borough limits and possibly for use by surrounding municipalities.
A memorandum of agreement has been reached between the Department of Transportation, Office of Maritime Resources and the borough.
The memo states state that the Department of Transportation, Office of Maritime Resources has agreed to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive dredging and dredged material management and disposal plan for state navigable waters.
