COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Department of Public Works, Office of the County Engineer, was awarded a NJDEP Environmental Stewardship award for the second time in four years. County Engineer, Dale Foster, presented the award at the Freeholder Caucus on May 24. Foster explained the purpose of the award and credited Nancy Mauro, the County’s Clean Community Coordinator, for her work in earning the award. The County Road Department assisted Mauro by keeping their maintenance yards clean and maintaining County various storm water facilities.
The County’s Road Department Facilities and Crest Haven Complex are inspected and evaluated annually by the NJDEP for storm water regulation compliance as both a Highway Agency and a Public Complex. The purpose of the program is to improve water quality in the surrounding waterways and the ocean. In addition to storm water management compliance, the County was also evaluated and received recognition in the following areas:
• Educational Outreach
• Community led litter pick up program
• LEED certification for new County buildings
• Hazardous Waste minimization practices
• Energy Use Reduction
The Environmental Stewardship Initiative is a recognition program developed in January 2008 by Compliance & Enforcement for use by all NJDEP programs that conduct compliance assurance inspections. The goal of this initiative is to encourage regulated entities to improve their environmental performance beyond the minimum requirements of existing rules and regulations.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
