Kit Kats in North Wildwood

By On Deck Staff

After 21 years, the Kits Kats will reunite for one day only in North Wildwood on August 8.
“The Kit Kats rocked Wildwood in the late 60s and early 70s and it’s time for their recognition,” said Paul Russo, organizer and founder of the Wildwood Music Awards.
A Philadelphia band formed in 1962, their earlier style was a mixture of doo-wop and soul, which later evolved to baroque rock.
Although the Kit Kats were very popular locally, they did not chart nationally until 1966 with “Let’s Get Lost On A Country Road.”
The Kit Kats changed their name to New Hope in 1969 and their best-known song, “Won’t Find Better Than Me,” made the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970.
Members Kit, Karl, Ronnie, and John were known as ‘The Ultimate Bar Band’ and performed at the Riptide in Wildwood and created a large following.
They reunited in 1988 for the last time before founding member Kit Stewart passed away in 2001.
“Wildwood was the Mecca for all types of music and we choose to honor all who made Wildwood Rock”, Russo said.
Russo is working on a ‘Wildwood Musical Hall of Fame.’ and his new book,” When Wildwood Rocked” is in the works.
The Kit Kats will appear at Cool Scoops, 1111 New Jersey Ave., and perform a few of their international hits at 4 p.m. as part of the ‘Evening on the Avenue Concert Series’ followed by a autograph and CD signing party.
The Kit Kats will receive the Wildwood Music Award at 7:30 pm at the Lou Booth Amphitheatre, 2nd and Ocean Avenue. All are welcomed.
Both events are free, thanks in part to the cooperation of the City of North Wildwood.
