DOUGHERTY, JOHN J., 92 – of Cape May Court House, NJ passed away April 26, 2016. Born in Philadelphia to the late Joseph and Margaret Dougherty, he moved to the area in 1946. He was one of nine children and served in the US Navy during World War II. He went on to own and operate Dougherty Brothers Plumbing and Heating along with his brother Charles. He also owned The Pier in Avalon, NJ at 29th Street and the boardwalk. He was predeceased by his wives, Mary in 1994 and Phyllis in 2006. John is survived by his children: Mary Dougherty of Cape May Court House, Peggy (Donald) Berry of DeBary, FL and their children Christopher and Matthew (Bonita), and John J. Jr. (Terry – deceased) Dougherty of DeBary, FL and their children Stacey (Steven) and great grandson Camron, and Lauren. He is also survived by grandchildren Donald Jr. and Rick; and siblings Charles, Catherine, Mary, and Edward. He is also predeceased by grandchild Janet and siblings: Betty, Joseph, James and Margaret. Funeral Mass will be Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic St., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in John’s name to Love of Linda Cancer Fund, PO Box 1053, Wildwood, NJ 08260.
