United States v. William Calley (1971): Calley, a lieutenant involved in the My Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War, was charged with murdering 22 Vietnamese civilians. His defense claimed he was following orders, but the court maintained that unlawful orders do not absolve individuals from moral responsibility, leading to his conviction.
