Just like Aesop’s fable about the goose that laid the golden eggs, Avalon once again considers sand back passing an option for beach replenishment. When will they realize the harm this causes to the ecosystem and stop destroying our most valuable resource of wide, living beaches for a short term gain in the north end that must be repeated each year? It leaves no chance for species recovery. Loss of invertebrates, food sources and changes to dune habitats is cumulative unlike living shoreline methods which grow these resources and can protect homes. The cost of Avalon’s folly is immeasurable.
