It breaks my heart that we are treating people this way. Putting them in handcuffs and dragging them away from their spouses, when they arrive for their final green card interview. People who had submitted extensive paperwork and paid all the fees. Who had been fingerprinted and passed all medical exams. People who had no criminal records and who had entered the country legally. People who had already been granted employment authorization. They did it all “the right way” like we insist they do, and yet we arrest them and detain them, ripping apart families. What is wrong with us?
