I worked in Banking for many years. A major part of our job was discretion. We were never permitted to discuss a customer's finances or balances. Recently I made a deposit into my account at my bank & the teller inquired, "Where did the money come from?" I was totally taken back! The teller then answered her own question & said, "Was it money you had saved?" Her level of discomfort was palpable. Is it fair for institutions to "require" tellers to ask questions like that of customers & then enter the answer into the bank's computer? When did this invasion of privacy become part of banking ?
