Good article regarding the state Pension system, but a few clarifications! Pensions are antiquated, no objection there! I work for a south Jersey County but was in the private sector previously. Salaries for rank-and-file employees are significantly lower, in some cases full time pay is at or near the poverty level. Our benefits costs have double digit increased over the past 3 years. We cannot attract young talent because of the low pay. Having ample time off is NO substitute for the low salaries. I pay way more in health benefits now than I ever did in the private sector.
