NORTH WILDWOOD – Route 147 enters North Wildwood over Beach Creek Bridge to the intersection of New York and Walnut avenues, which prompted city officials to request the state Department of Transportation (DOT) reduce the speed limit from 45 to 30 miles per hour (mph).
Recommendations were given by Police Chief Matthew Gallagher and City Engineer Ralph Petrella.
City Clerk Scott Jett announced June 18 that the DOT conducted a study of the areas in question and said a reduction to 30 mph was not warranted.
According to a letter from Jay Jimenez, of DOT, the speed limit will be reduced from 45 to 40 mph for a “smoother transition” from 50 to 30 mph speed zones. Council supported the DOT’s decision.
