By Press Release

NORTH CAPE MAY – Officers from the Lower Township Police Department responded to a report of a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident June 7 at 4:42 p.m. An 18-wheel semi-tractor trailer traveling southbound on US Route 9 ran off of the roadway striking a guard rail.
The tractor trailer was operated by Richard Thompson, 30, from Egg Harbor Township. The driver was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center.
Town Bank Fire Company responded to the scene as well as Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Command (CBRNE) from the Cape May County Health Department. There was a small amount of diesel leaking from the vehicle’s fuel tank and the remainder was removed from the fuel tank prior to removing the vehicle from the scene.
A section of US Route 9, also known as Ferry Road from Seashore Road to Shunpike Road was closed until approximately 9 p.m. while the tractor trailer was removed from the roadway.
The cause of this crash is still under investigation by Patrolman Kevin Boyle Jr.
