VILLAS – Lower Township pickleballers will be getting six new courts, to be constructed between the government complex and the senior center on Bayshore Road.
Township Manager Mike Laffey said pickleball continues to grow in popularity, and the township already has two pickleball courts in Diamond Beach. The township plans to spend about $456,000 for the new courts, which are expected to be completed in about nine months.
The Township Council at its April 7 meeting authorized $60,000 for the design of the courts and for construction administrative costs.
The $60,000 proposal, prepared by engineer Marc DeBlasio, comprised $40,000 for engineering costs, including survey and base mapping, design plans and specifications, and public bidding, and $20,000 for the construction phase, including contract administration, shop drawing/submittal review and part-time construction observation.
The overall projected cost of the project is $456,165, which includes the $60,000 authorized on April 7. The superintendent of recreation, Mitch Plenn, has been designated as the project manager.
The Lower Township Recreation Center has indoor pickleball on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
