COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Zoological Society has kicked off a fundraising campaign to support the Cape May County Park & Zoo in its efforts to build a new, world-class habitat for Humboldt penguins and Chilean flamingos.
The state-of-the-art habitat will be constructed at the site of the former World of Birds Aviary and will provide a home for 20 penguins and 30 flamingos.
The new habitat will be designed to reflect the natural environments of these species, offering ample space, enrichment and advanced care facilities. The project is part of the zoo’s ongoing commitment to conservation, education and providing exceptional animal care.
Humboldt penguins, native to South America, are threatened by habitat loss and overfishing, while Chilean flamingos rely on increasingly fragile wetland ecosystems. The habitat will serve as an educational tool, helping visitors understand the challenges these species face and the importance of global conservation efforts.
Founded in 1989, the Cape May County Zoological Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the sole fundraising entity for the zoo.
The zoo, home to more than 250 species, is open every day except Christmas. Free entry and free parking.
The Zoological Society invites the community to join in the effort by contributing to the campaign, online at capemayzoosociety.org/donate or by mail to Cape May Zoological Society, PO Box 864, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
