RIO GRANDE – The Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Company responded before noon, Aug. 10, to a personal watercraft (PWC) operator stuck in the mud in Richardson Sound between the Garden State Parkway and Wildwood.

A teen and his grandfather were riding their PWCs in Richardson Sound at around 10 a.m. when the youth became stuck in the mud about 200 yards away from Route 47, across the street from Pier 47 Marina. The boy’s grandfather, who was not stuck, managed to call for help.

The Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Company responded, along with Middle Township Police Department and Inspira EMS. The fire company requested the help of the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Company’s PWC. Firefighters were able to get the teen onto the fire company’s PWC. There were no injuries. Firefighters remained on the scene as the tide was coming in to retrieve the PWC.
