Hello, I’m Kathy Orlando. I am seeking re-election to the Middle Twp. board of Education. I am a lifelong resident of Cape May County. I’m a wife, a mother of four and have eight enthusiastic grandchildren. What I represent sitting on the school board is a seasoned educator who isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions of the other board members, as well as the administration. I served 26 years as a 1st grade teacher in this district and had the pleasure of teaching close to 650 children. I know the past in education, the controversial curriculum and policies that were ushered in since 2019 and I will continue to act as a watchdog with regard to legislation that will affect your children moving forward.
- I have reservations regarding the mental health program that our school is attempting to implement. Why not be proactive and push for an in depth wellness program that would benefit both children and families in the district. Other school districts are doing this. Why can’t we?
- I was instrumental in creating an “Opt Out” of the controversial health curriculum.
- I have also fought for transparency and parental rights with regards to sexual and violent content in the school libraries.
- I continue to support aligning our curriculum with top schools in the state. Our state scores however slightly improving, are of great concern.
- It is my position not to over burden our local tax payers in order to compensate for the loss or reduction of state funding. We must strongly encourage a review of financial practices and overall quality of our educational system.
