A 34-year-old Villas man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a minor, authorities said.
Rayvon Knight was arrested after the Lower Township Police Department received a report June 30 of a possible sexual assault of a minor, according to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief Kevin Lewis of the Lower Township Police Department.
On the same date, the Lower Police Department and the Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Victims Unit began an investigation.
As a result, Knight was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault, a crime of the second degree, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, also a crime of the second degree.
Knight is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending further court proceedings.
A person convicted of a second-degree crime typically faces a sentencing range of five to 10 years in state prison and is subject to the provisions of the No Early Release Act.
Sutherland urged anyone with additional information on this case to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Victims Unit at 609-465-1135, submit an anonymous tip through the Prosecutor’s Office website at cmcpotips, or use the Cape May County Sheriff’s Tip Line at cmcsheriff.net by clicking on “anonymous tip.”
