NORTH WILDWOOD – While the city was under a state of emergency due to the nor’easter on Monday, Oct. 13, just before 2 p.m. a driver took his vehicle onto the beach and became stuck, authorities said.
According to acting Fire Chief Josh Carter, after it got stuck police officers were able to coax the occupants out of the vehicle, and they were brought to safety. After the tide went out, he said, public works was able to attach a winch cable and pull the vehicle out.
“It was fortunate at the time because the tide was heading out. They could have lost the vehicle,” Carter said.
The Department of Public Works has a policy of pulling any stuck vehicles off the beach and does not permit private towing companies to recover them from the beach. The city allows vehicles on the beach with a permit and has a ramp at Second Street for that purpose.
