WILDWOOD – A fire in a multifamily building on Wednesday, Dec. 4, displaced three people, the city Fire Department said on its Facebook page.

Fire units were dispatched to the 200 block of West Wildwood Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. that day on a report of a dwelling fire.

Deputy 3 from Wildwood arrived on the scene and reported fire showing from the third floor of a four-story, multifamily dwelling. The Fire Department said Squad Co. 3 arrived in two minutes and began to attack the main body of the fire while simultaneously searching for any occupants.

North Wildwood Fire Department Ladder 2 then arrived and helped in the search for occupants. All of them were able to get out of the building safely prior to the Fire Department’s arrival; however, three were displaced, with one being assisted by the Red Cross.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The fire was under control in about 15 minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours. The city Fire Department said that due to the quick response, the majority of the fire damage was confined to the exterior of the building, with minor fire damage to one unit on the third floor and smoke and water damage to two others.

The blaze is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Off-duty Wildwood firefighters, along with the Wildwood Crest Fire Department and Rio Grande Fire Department, provided additional manpower at the scene. The Stone Harbor Fire Department covered the island, while the Middle Township Ambulance Corps provided rehab and the Wildwood Crest EMS provided on-scene EMS. Wildwood Police Department officers also assisted.
