Tech Students Cook Up a Winner at State Contest

Culinary arts and carpentry students and their teachers from Cape May County Technical School were honored by the county commissioners June 10.

CREST HAVEN – Students and faculty from the Cape May County Technical School were recognized by the county commissioners on June 10 for awards they received at the New Jersey Association of Counties Cookoff Challenge, held May 12 at Caesars in Atlantic City.

The participants were honored individually and as a group for their entry of shrimp and crab cake sandwich with lemon caper aioli. Besides the bronze medal for taste and the silver medal for station display, the entry won a gold medal for the people’s choice. The entry also received the professional chefs award silver medal for taste and gold medal for food presentation.

Receiving awards were culinary arts students Garrett Olson, Brandie Elliott, Chloe Dobbins, Jack Giorgianni, Alexander Nelson and Yarieliz Reyes-Santiago, and carpentry students (for building the display) Brody Adams, Kody Bigelow, Gloria Mason, Jacob Sherick and Logan Veras.

Teachers honored were Adam Dunning, carpentry; Steven Serano, culinary arts, and Gwen Raring, culinary arts.
