WILDWOOD – The Wildwood Police Department has reportedly located the owner of a rabbit picked up around Magnolia and New Jersey avenues Wednesday evening, Oct. 11.

The City of Wildwood Police Department Facebook page included typical mugshot images of a rabbit – both front and side view – asking if anyone could help locate the owners. In the meantime, the police had a little fun with the matter.

“‘Somebunny’ decided to celebrate tonight’s big Phillies win with a night out on the town,” the police department’s post reads. “Unfortunately, this night out became a hare-raising experience when the bunny was located in the park at Magnolia and New Jersey Avenues and we can’t figure out where he lives.”

The rabbit was obviously not known to the police, as they asked for the public’s help in locating the owner, asking, “If you can help us get him home, hop on your phone and contact us at (609) 522-0222.”

Twelve hours after the posting it received over 280 reactions, 33 comments – including offers to adopt the animal – and nearly 180 shares.

A call to the police department resulted in the Herald being told the owner had been located. Further information was not immediately available. It is not known whether the rabbit was cited for failing to maintain a rabbit trail, cotton tailgating, or other offense.
