Smokestack Demolition to Include Planned Power Outages

Atlantic City Electric advises customers of a planned service interruption in Ocean City on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Weather permitting on Oct. 25, between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., some customers (see map) will experience a brief outage for up to 10 minutes, due to local construction in Beesley’s Point impacting the Ocean City and Upper Township areas. 

Please make any necessary preparations for the outage. Scheduling for this is subject to change based on weather and other system factors.

Another service interruption is planned for the same areas between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

An implosion of the smokestack at the former B.L. England Generating Station in Beesley’s Point is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26. The demolition will be conducted under controlled conditions in a restricted area, and there will be no threat to public safety or public health. Please do not be alarmed if you hear the sound of the implosion on Thursday morning. The schedule is subject to change based on weather and other factors.

Safe viewing areas – including the shared use path on the Garden State Parkway bridge – will be designated. Parking restrictions on Route 9 and other nearby areas will be in place.
