Five members of a Villas family were hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash on Route 347 south in Maurice River Township, State Police said.

A State Police spokesperson said troopers responded to the motor vehicle crash on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 3:27 a.m. near milepost 7. According to the preliminary investigation, a Subaru Legacy and a Volvo XC6 were traveling southbound on Route 347 when the Subaru struck the rear of the Volvo, causing the Volvo to veer off the roadway to the right and hit a tree. The Subaru then veered off the roadway to the left and into a ditch.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Volvo, Joseph Lowry, 53; a passenger, Jennifer Lowry, 51; the Lowrys’ niece, Alexandre Shepherd, 37, and their two daughters, all from Villas, sustained serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the injured. According to the information listed on the page, the three adults are in the intensive care unit and the two daughters are in the pediatric intensive care unit, but the hospital name was not given.

The Lowrys have three sons who are taking care of their home while their parents recover, according to the GoFundMe page.
