CORRECTION: The below incorrectly stated the dog park is planned for the south end of the island. It’s planned for the north end.
SEA ISLE CITY – On August 22, Sea Isle City Council authorized an award to Fred M. Schiavone Construction for the long-awaited city dog park. The award was for $967,931.
Mayor Leonard Desiderio said the project design and location have resulted from an attempt to “accommodate all the needs expressed by the public, as well as the concerns of the County Open Space Committee, who has recommended funding of this project.” The city could receive a reimbursement of 75% of the cost of the project.
The dog park design includes three pavilions and an actual dog park with facilities for both large and small dogs. The park is planned for the north end of the island in an area that will protect nearby residents from noise.
The construction schedule should mean a functioning dog park when man’s best friend is again banned from the beaches and Promenade at the start of the 2024 summer season.
