A school bus carrying students from the Ocean City Intermediate School was destroyed by fire on the Garden State Parkway in Upper Township on Wednesday, April 17. There were no injuries to the students, driver or first responders.

Fire crews from Seaville and Marmora, along with New Jersey State Police troopers, responded to the fire at around 2:30 p.m. near mile marker 20.6 in Upper Township.

According to information provided by Seaville Fire & Rescue and the State Police, the driver and 10 students were outside the bus when they arrived. Steve Schaffer, of the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, said the Sheppard Bus Service bus was transporting students from the intermediate school to their homes in Sea Isle City.

The bus was engulfed in heavy fire. The Marmora Volunteer Fire Co. was requested for extra water and manpower. Crews operated on the scene for approximately two hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Police and the county Fire Marshal’s Office.
