RUNYON, MICHAEL B.
Michael B. Runyon, known affectionately as Mike aka Hollywood, passed away at the age of 73 on April 8, 2025, in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. Born on November 12, 1951, in Camden, New Jersey, his spirit was as vast and deep as the ocean he cherished. A fixture at 110th Street Beach in Stone Harbor, he was more than just a surfer he was a legend, a teacher of all things salt life, and a friend to all who knew the rhythm of the tide.
A skilled builder by trade, he would later on become employed by the Borough of Stone Harbor where he retired. Michael lived for the salt air and the sound of waves, spending countless hours surfing, boating, fishing, and walking the shore with the sun on his back and a smile on his face. He treasured the days spent offshore fishing aboard the Pilot House with a crew he considered family. His favorite moments were the simple ones checking his crab trap with his grandson, driving on the beach in the off season, and casting a line as the sun slipped below the horizon.
In retirement, he found peace in the waters of Sebastian, Florida, kayaking the quiet river bends, fishing under the mangroves, and waiting patiently for the call of the first gull that would signal it was time to return north.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Debbie Runyon, his daughters, Heather and Kelly Runyon, and his cherished grandson, Hunter Raines.
His legacy of salt and sand, of wisdom and wild waves, and love of nature will not be forgotten. May the wind always be at his back, and the ocean forever in his soul.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
