NORTH WILDWOOD – A Rio Grande resident was charged with stealing two bikes and an iPad, police said.
The Police Department responded to the 400 block of East 23rd Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle burglary and theft of an Apple iPad on Friday, July 26. Officers were able to track the device to a laundromat in Wildwood.
During the investigation, North Wildwood Detective Joseph Kopetsky viewed surveillance footage from the laundromat, which showed a man in possession of the stolen iPad. With assistance from the Wildwood Police Department’s Detective Division, officers were able to identify the subject as Ronaldo Santiago Jr., 40, from Rio Grande.
Santiago was located by the Wildwood Police Department wearing the exact clothing from the surveillance footage and was in possession of the stolen iPad. He was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree theft and taken to the Cape May County Correctional Center.
In addition to that incident, North Wildwood officers responded to 18th and the boardwalk on July 26 on a report of a stolen bicycle. Kopetsky viewed available video surveillance, and Santiago was again identified as the suspect, wearing the exact clothing observed on the previous video. He was charged with third-degree theft and fourth-degree possession of burglary tools.
Police said Santiago admitted to the theft as well as where he stored the bicycle. He also admitted to a theft of a bicycle in Wildwood. Both bicycles were recovered and returned to their owners.
