COLD SPRING – The operator of a personal watercraft (PWC) was injured after he struck what the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) described as a sandbar in the Cape May Canal.

NJSP Sgt. 1st Class Philip Curry said the incident occurred just before 1 p.m., Aug. 12.

A man was operating a Yamaha PWC in the Cape May Canal, traveling east in front of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal. Police said the PWC struck a sandbar near navigational marker number 12, causing the operator to be ejected from the PWC.

The operator sustained nonlife-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
