WILDWOOD CREST – A Philadelphia woman was charged with weapons offenses after a traffic stop when the officer spotted a handgun in her glove compartment.

Officer Tyler Lavender conducted a motor vehicle stop at around 10:23 p.m., Aug. 30. When the driver went to retrieve documents from the glove compartment, Lavender noticed a black handgun.

The officer learned the firearm belonged to the vehicle owner, Evanna Outterbridge, 27, who was not operating or riding in the vehicle at the time. When located, Outterbridge claimed ownership of the handgun and had a Pennsylvania permit to carry, but no New Jersey permit.

Outterbridge was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine. She was released on a summons.

Wildwood Crest Police Department reminds visitors and gun owners to educate themselves on local gun laws when they travel. A permit to carry is typically only valid in the state in which it was issued.
