To The Editor:
I read with great interest your story about the Cape May County Animal Shelter in your Aug. 4 issue.
I took my dog Ginger, a mixed breed, two times to the shelter to surrender her because I was getting evicted for having my dog in my condo unit for five years until a new condo president took over, and I was told no dogs are allowed in condo unit.
I was told both times that I went to the shelter that my dog was not adoptable due to her age, but yet they have stray pit bulls there, go figure? They gave me numbers to Atlantic County and Cumberland County shelters.
I called both shelters and was told they had no room. I slept with my dog for three nights in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Finally I made a decision that the heat inside my GMC Jimmy was too hot for her and she might die.
I took her to a local vet and had her put to sleep, one of the most painful things I ever had to do in my life. She was with me since she was a puppy through thick and thin, and now she’s gone.
My reply to the animal shelter? Thank you for nothing.
