Repeal Health Insurance Fine

By Ed Beddow, Burleigh

To the Editor:
In bill A3380; also known as the “New Jersey Health Insurance Market Preservation Act,” passed May 30, 2018, the Obamacare fine is forced on people throughout the state who can’t afford health insurance. It had 11 sponsors, one being Assemblyman John F. McKeon of the 27th Legislative District of Essex County. He also supports rights and monetary aid to illegal immigrants.
Sadly, former Assemblyman. Robert “Bob” Andrzejczak voted yes for passage, and Gov. Phil Murphy signed the fine into law, a fine President Trump removed from federal income taxes.
The Obamacare fine has been the biggest problem in the “Affordable Healthcare Act” since the entire law was declared unconstitutional by a federal judge in Texas, Dec. 14, 2018 and the decision was upheld in federal Appeals Court Dec. 18, 2019. ACA is currently on its way to U.S. Supreme Court again. Former President Obama was dishonest about the fine when repeatedly questioned about it.
What McKeon failed to do was create a health insurance law that would be better than making an exact copy of a failed federal law. It’s easier to use the fine as a weapon against Cape May County residents and the rest of the state.
Since bill A3380 is more politically motivated extortion rather than a healthcare initiative, I suggested that New Jersey back one insurance company in the same way NJ Transit is subsidized in an effort to force insurance companies to lower premiums in the same way NJ Transit competes with other bus and train companies in the state to lower fares.
People who have a problem with the Obamacare fine in state income taxes should contact Assemblyman John McKeon at 973 337 1606, fax 973 337 0391 and tell him that his fine isn’t fair in bill A3380 and demand an end to the fine.
The fine does not, and will not, insure the uninsured and is illegal. There needs to be accountability of state politicians from the federal government who use fines like this. Bill A3380 needs to be repealed.
