To The Editor:
I feel compelled to write to let readers know my thoughts and where I stand on the issue of Mike Voll’s legitimacy as a candidate.
First and foremost, I believe that one of the most precious liberties we have as Americans is to have the right to get a petition, obtain valid signatures and run for elected office. With that being said, there is also criteria that has to be followed, such as being a resident for one year before running for office.
The fact that Mike Voll chose to apply for homestead rebate in Florida and declare residency there in 2009 in order to reduce his taxes, was his own decision and he put himself in the position to have his validity as a legal candidate challenged. This combined with the recent ruling by the election board of having my opponent, Mike Voll, re-register could trigger another action; going before a judge to rule if he can be on the ballot in November. I want residents, to know that I am not pursuing or authorizing anyone to have him removed.
I was appalled that Voll did not clean up his voting status before he filed his petition. The fact that he was forced to a hearing leaves a lot of questions in my mind. I have always encouraged others to run for elected office, especially those like myself who have no political agenda.
It is an honor to serve residents. I look forward to Election Day. I have confidence and trust in residents to decide, who they want on township committee.
