To the Editor:
I am sick and tired of how Washington has spent so much money and now needs to cut benefits of the military and the elderly to finance their special interests, which of course includes themselves and their cohorts. The inefficiency of our elected officials must always be paid for on the backs of people who have little recourse. The men and women of the armed forces have earned every single benefit they were promised. They have gone into battle to protect and promote the ideals of this country. They didn’t question the reasoning behind some of these battles but put their lives on hold and in harm’s way to do the bidding of the commander-in-chief. The elderly, the Medicare recipients, have also selfishly put their country’s interests ahead of their own many, many times. Now, our useless officials see no other way to cut costs than take away what has been earned by the military and elderly.
How about we put term limits on these officials and cut their pensions, healthcare and perks. It was never intended for these politicians to stay in office forever. They were to go to Washington, apply their expertise to the problems they saw and then go home and go on with their own professions. They have found a very cushy place to grow old, fat and very rich. Who gets a pension after two years of service? Nobody, but a Congressman. Cut their benefits, give them the same healthcare we all have, and have them stop taking money out of programs designed to help people in need.
