Hate Guides Our Future

To the Editor: 
The very people who hate Hillary have likely facilitated her presidency. Their leaders have instilled hate and then do not understand the anger at the polls. Anger is a part of hate. These are great tools to assemble the masses. There are no tools to control such an assembly. Extreme partisanship has brought the Grand Old Party to its knees. Many good people in the party are stepping away from the hysteria that is leading the GOP to possible extinction.
Either party is quite capable but the GOP certainly has a big head start. We need only to look right here at home to understand how this has happened. In Cape May County, I have been involved in the political arena in many ways, including public employee representative, community activist and Taxpayers Association founder and president. I have had the opportunity to work with great local leaders of our time. Unfortunately, it was a different time. Leaders were successes in their own right. They looked to use that success to aid their communities. Many today are looking for the communities to aid their success. Compare the surnames of our elected officials to the public employees’ list in our area. If the list starts at the highest salaries, you won’t need to go too far to start seeing familiar names. Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders is an employment agency for the well-connected of their party.
So we have a new generation of professional politicians who have no leadership skills. Greed and selfishness are two of the base instincts that drive them. They are primitive instincts which are the tools of their trade. The hostile rhetoric used to keep their followers in step, precludes any conciliatory dialogue. The word compromise is the same as surrender to these folks. This is what we see at home and is likely occurring across our once great nation. It is certainly what is being evidenced in the presidential primary election. We have very few good leaders because men of goodwill will not be part of this ugly behavior.
Tragically, there is no good end in sight for this presidential election. Trump would be our commander-in-chief and war is not a reality show. Hillary is so hated; housewives in Ohio would be looting stores. Usually, I will conclude by advising to just keep voting them out until all the professionals are gone. That’s not going to work this time. I am really not sure what happens next. The only time in history that has comparable components, cannot give us many answers, as cavemen did not have closed conventions.
