To the Editor:
I wish to express my disappointment over the distasteful remarks that former City of Wildwood Commissioner Al Brannon made at the press conference held at the Wildwood Housing Authority in August. Brannon, along with another female resident of Wildwood, made references to persons who might be in need of affordable healthcare, as “those people” and “them.” Now, that he is out of office and the need to get the vote is no longer imperative to a campaign, the game has changed, he no longer needs those people. Shame on you Mr. Brannon.
It was clear that neither Brannon nor his sidekick had the facts. But, I can share one very important fact with you. If it weren’t for “those people,” the small Mom and Pop sandwich and pizza shops could not stay afloat year round as well as all the other businesses that accept those people’s food stamps. I grew up on the island, and yes, Wildwood has changed quite a bit, but the change has nothing to do with bringing affordable, and easy access healthcare to a much needed and medically underserved community.
Wildwood was in trouble way before Complete Care made any proposals, and Brannon knows it. “You people,” such as the former City of Wildwood Commissioner, are the ones who ruined Wildwood years ago, and now you want to blame someone who you think is beneath you. Brannon, has lost my respect. What are the names of the doctors in Wildwood who will treat persons in need of medical care on a sliding scale? I didn’t hear Brannon or his sidekick name those doctors.
Mothers won’t have to be subjected to adverse weather conditions while struggling to get off the island with the children seeking affordable healthcare. The elderly won’t have to travel far. Complete Health Care Network, Wildwood needs you.
