To the Editor:
Strange that people think Joe Biden is the cause of inflation. A letter writer mentions the federal reserve briefly, and then refers to the war on fossil fuels, which I don’t believe.
Oil companies raise prices for one reason and one reason only, and that is to make more money. It’s working for them. Oil company profits are at record breaking levels, and they claim it’s because of a section of a pipeline that was never built in the first place, so it could not be a factor. If this is a war on oil companies, they are winning.
We don’t have any new refineries because the corporations are maximizing profits at 95% capacity and when one refinery goes down for repairs, they just raise prices so they can get it fixed and back online at zero cost. Don’t forget that we also give generous subsidies to the poor oil corporations for some reason that I can’t understand.
How many tax cuts have corporations received from our government in the last 50 years? It would be impossible to calculate, but you want to blame Joe Biden. Companies raise prices because they want to and if they can say it’s someone else’s fault, they are off the hook. If politicians could control fuel prices, they would have them around 50 cents per gallon. Don’t be fooled.
