The states need to stop suing Washington and gather to fix it, per Article V of the Constitution.
Remember the preamble of the Declaration of Independence? Most of us memorized it in the 5th grade and probably quickly forgot it; but as we celebrate that event of incredible bravery by the men who signed the document, it is a timely moment to review an excerpt of that potent small paragraph.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it…”
Because of multiple abuses over time, 240 years ago our forefathers dissolved their allegiance to the central government in London in favor of a new central government; significant abuses by our current central government in Washington require now, as then, our close attention.
There is a sentiment in our country that Washington is growing ever more dysfunctional and abusive of the powers which the American people delegate to it. As the American people recognized from the outset, the people derive their rights from God and we delegate responsibilities to government.
In example after example, we see unconstitutional executive, administrative, and judicial overreach, where the rule of man is supplanting the rule of law. These functions of government are disrespecting our God-given sovereignty as a people.
Independence Day is far and away America’s most important national day, because it presents an ongoing call for vigilance. Virtually nothing in life is ever simply won and done – you have got to work at it to preserve it. When our forefathers set us on the course which created the freest and most successful nation the world has ever known, they, in fact, stated that we would be challenged to maintain what they put in motion.
We have talked about abuses; now let us talk about solutions. To respond to the abuses of their day, our ancestors had to go to war. Today, because of the genius of the Constitution which the drafters crafted, we now have a non-violent mechanism in place to address problems with our central government. It contains Article V, which gives the states total power over Washington to rectify ills. If 38 states agree on a needed change, it becomes part of the Constitution and the law of the land. Neither the Supreme Court, nor the President, nor Congress has any involvement whatsoever in the matter; their signatures are not called for, nor do they have any veto power over it.
So cheer up. Our brightest days are ahead of us…If we know who we are and do our part.
