Did you know that China has a major exodus of its citizens? Many of them are wealthy, and over half of them are coming to the U.S.
Why am I bringing this up? Because we have the greatest nation in the world, and the Chinese, who lack democracy and the rule of law, prefer America as the place to resettle. Unfortunately, however, our foundations as a nation are being undermined by the way our federal government had dealt with Hillary Clinton’s improper use of a private email server for official use. The FBI conducted an exhaustive investigation of her behavior and concluded in its report that she violated official policy and jeopardized America’s security.
Her actions were no mere slip-up. A State Department Inspector General report stated that Mrs. Clinton and her staff were warned by State Department officials that her private email was vulnerable to hackers. The Wall Street Journal stated in an opinion column, “She willfully and intentionally ignored those warnings.”
The Journal added that FBI Director James Comey “…knows that many federal employees have been prosecuted for mishandling classified information despite no evidence of ill intent. They were prosecuted merely for recklessly handling secrets…Mrs. Clinton deliberately sought to evade the Federal Records Act, recklessly flouted laws on handling classified information, spent a year lying about it, and will now have escaped accountability. This will confirm the Clinton family habit, learned so painfully in the 1990s that they can get away with anything if they deny it long enough and are protected by a friendly media and political class. The rule of law requires its neutral application.”
Because of our national institutional strength, large numbers of Chinese are willing to leave their country in favor of ours. Let us not, through blindness or indifference, fail to recognize and respond to these threats. Our core attribute, our democracy, is underpinned by blind application of the rule of laws. We must cherish it and respond clearly when it is abused, both for our good and for the benefit of future generations.
