Okay, so my real job is to run this amazing website, www.capemaycountyherald.com.
I think my colleagues wouldn’t mine if I take this opportunity to toot my own horn, as well as theirs.
I guess this week’s column is geared to all of you Cape May Countians who have not been there (here) yet, either because you do not realize what an amazing tool you have at your fingertips, or that you think that visiting our website isn’t really worth your time.
(P.S. This column is written for print.)
If I know that you are holding this paper in your hands and reading this, I can deduce, if you have the capability and haven’t already, that you would benefit from visiting our website.
Let me just take the time to share with all you “paper-readers” what has been happening online at the Herald.
You can find everything in this paper on our website, plus a whole lot more.
For starters, we have been producing video online for little over a year now. We have a full-fledged recording studio, and we have evolved to having six of our reporters standing in front of the camera with a microphone.
We just launched a test version of Herald Marketplace last week. This means we now have over 6,000 Cape May County businesses in our online database that are searchable by category, keyword and town. We will have more on this soon, so stay tuned.
We have the most extensive online events calendar for Cape May County. Hey Sea Isle City, did you know that your Chamber of Commerce hosted a “Bagels at the Beach” yesterday to discuss a new trolley system?
As a life-long county resident, this calendar has proved to me that there are still things to do here in the off-season. It amazes me how many events are submitted to our calendar, and what amazes me even more is the number of people that read them.
You can submit a letter to the editor, a print Spout Off, a photo to our gallery which could be printed, and even attach a photo to a news tip that I will receive on my phone 24 hours a day (if it’s after midnight it better be newsworthy!)
If you go to Wawa late on Wednesday evening only to find out that all the Herald’s are gone, do not worry. We post every publication we produce online in PDF format. The Herald will only take a couple of minutes to download in a broadband connection (Pssst the shoobies have discovered this!)
Our website is the #1 source for breaking news in Cape May County. If you read about it in this paper, odds are we broke the story on our website days before or even immediately after it happened.
So, in a nutshell, there is a lot going on at www.capemaycountyherald.com. Be sure to check out the most visited local Cape May County website. Well, if you are reading this here, I am glad you made it. There is a very dedicated team behind this, updating it with content daily.
