I woke this morning to a cool breeze blowing our chimes on the front porch. I haven’t heard that in quite some time. I got up and reached for a warmer robe, another thing I haven’t needed in quite awhile. How refreshing. I am so used to sweating puddles all night while trying to sleep. No fans or air-conditioning today!
I have heard the weather forecast for the week, and I know there are some high 80’s expected. Maybe even a beach day or two, but at least this morning it feels like fall.
I feel like I should grab all my whites and pastels off their hangers and pack them up in the bag of “summer clothes,” but not yet. Not quite ready for the sweater weather.
I have a strange desire for pumpkin spice candles and hot cocoa. Well not yet. I’ll stick to my iced tea and cold lemonade.
This summer has seemed like it has gone on forever, maybe not to the kids back at school, but to me. September is a time for the locals to enjoy the beaches. They are still as beautiful as they are in July, yet with far less people and commotion. Now only a handful are enjoying the spectacular sights of the sand and ocean. With ocean temps still in the 70s, it is like a big pool with a view. Now it is free to all who step on the sand!
Some shops are still open for the few stragglers who extended their summer vacations. Some good sales also on the remnants of summer clothing. Football and soccer have started, and we have four grandchildren involved. We will be spending a few Saturdays trying to watch all four play. Cheering them all no matter how they do.
It is a time between seasons. I still have my bathing suit available, but some long pants and skirts are waiting me. My tan is at its peak. Soon I will be covering up these bronze legs, but not yet! The school buses are our biggest traffic problem now and I can deal with that!
I know it isn’t fall till Sept. 23, but I say “bring it on.”
