Ocean City Approves Health Plans for 2024

OCEAN CITY – State approval in 2022 of a 22% increase in premium rates for municipalities that participated in the State Health Benefits Program led to an exodus of towns from the program. Ocean City was one of the municipalities that rejected the state premium hike, opting instead to find its own private plan.

In November 2022, the city filed the necessary paperwork with the state to terminate its participation in the state program for all active and retired employees.

At a council meeting Thursday, Dec. 7, the Ocean City governing body passed two resolutions continuing its participation in the private insurance market, setting a renewal with AmeriHealth as its provider for employee health care and selecting Aetna as the insurance provider for Medicare-eligible retirees.
