OCEAN CITY – Capt. Patrick Walsh has graduated from the 294th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the Police Department announced. Nationally, fewer than 1 percent of law enforcement officers have the opportunity to attend the National Academy program.
By graduating on June 5 Walsh joined an international fraternity of law enforcement officers who have demonstrated the exceptional leadership, knowledge and skills required to lead local law enforcement agencies into the future. He is the 16th officer in the department’s history to complete the program.
Walsh has been a law enforcement officer for more than 19 years with the city Police Department. He is currently assigned as the captain of training and seasonal operations.
Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said, “This is just another example of the commitment of Ocean City’s first responders to serving our community in the best way possible.”
Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
The 294th session consisted of 239 men and women from 48 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included members of law enforcement agencies from 14 countries, six military organizations and four federal civilian organizations.
