NORTH CAPE MAY – Two Lower Township residents were arrested Wednesday, Jan. 29, on drug possession and distribution charges.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Lower Township Police Chief Kevin Lewis announced the arrests in a press release issued Thursday, Jan. 30.
On Jan. 29, as the result of a joint investigation, Kevin Powell, 49, and Elizabeth Singh, 47, were arrested after search warrants were executed at their North Cape May residence and vehicles, and on their persons.
The searches found crack cocaine in an amount less than one-half ounce, numerous prescription schedule pills, various types of paraphernalia related to the distribution of drugs and approximately $3,750 in U.S. currency, all of which were seized.
Powell was charged with one count of third-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of third-degree possession of a CDS, one count of fourth-degree possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia, one count of third-degree resisting arrest, one count of third-degree conspiracy and one count of refusal to submit to fingerprints, a disorderly persons offense.
He was processed and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.
Singh was charged with one count of third-degree distribution of a CDS, two counts of third-degree possession of a CDS and one count of fourth-degree possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia. She was processed and released on a summons pending court proceedings.
Individuals convicted of third-degree crimes are subject to a prison term of three to five years.
The search warrants were executed as part of a joint investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office’s Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, the Lower Township Police Department and the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team.
