SOUTH DENNIS – A small commercial bus heading out on a run for the Cape May County Special Services School District caught fire Monday morning, July 31, on Court House-South Dennis Road.

The bus had not picked up any students before the fire was discovered at approximately 7:25 a.m.

Dennis Volunteer Fire Company units, supported by automatic aid from Ocean View Volunteer Fire Company, were dispatched to the area of Route 47 and Court House-South Dennis Road for the fire.

According to the New Jersey State Police, troopers responded shortly thereafter and found the 20-passenger Sheppard bus fully engulfed in flames. A representative from Sheppard Bus said the vehicle appeared to be a total loss.

Dennis Township Fire Deputy Chief Adam Dotts arrived on location and reported a working vehicle fire. Squads and tankers from Ocean View Station 17 and Dennisville Station 18, along with Engine 17, responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Inspira EMS responded to the incident but there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
